I have naturally curly hair but I sometimes straighten it. I was wondering if it would behave better if I used a shampoo for curly hair even though I straighten occasionally? Would it still straighten the same way?

Yes, the shampoos don't do much. I have wavy hair and use "straight" shampoo and my hair was still a little wavy after straightening. It all really depends on your straightener and the products you use in your hair before straightening it. Also, hairspray it a little after straightening and it should be beautiful.
